Bement Elementary School students have a blast with new books from fundraiser

Over a two-week period in October, the Bement Elementary School participated in a program called Books are Fun Book Blast. Donations from family, friends, neighbors of the students were collected in the amount of $10,290 and a delivery of 866 books was received on Tuesday, November 9.

Every student in PreK-8th grade was given two books even if they did not personally participate in the program and some received up to ten for those who donated personally to that student. The books are for the children to take home and begin building their own home library.

Books Are Fun, who’s mission and guarantee is, “We inspire more lifelong readers by putting at least one hot new book in the hands of EVERY student at your school”,
has been committed for over 30 years to bringing books and products to thousands of schools, hospitals, and offices across the United States.

The school also received $816.00 towards buying school resources for classroom supplies such as markers, pens, crafts, XL post-its, and stress balls. The STEM boxes for the classrooms included books and novels for the classroom libraries.

Special prize winners were Sophie Kindred who won an IPad along with shopping spree winners Charlee Foran, Thomas Geddes, Tristyn Culpeper, Clark Fainter, Roman Garrett, Bell Kalder, Alyvia Ross, Emma Hostetler, Emmalyn Ewers, Cassie Block, and Anna Block. Teachers Melanie Courchaine and Jenniver Tavenner each won $100.00 shopping sprees. Treasure Box winners included Chloe Burton, Sawyer Valentine, Gwen Turner, and Madeline Payne.
