BARN RAISING GROUNDBREAKING. On Friday, September 23 the Illinois Amish Heritage Center hosted a different kind of groundbreaking ceremony at their campus. Bruce Weiman of Fisher and an IAHC board member, took his turn running the slip scraper as Levi Yoder, also an IAHC board member, guided the horse team owned by Nathan Diener. The Herschberger-Miller barn was built in 1879 just west of Arthur and earlier this spring was dismantled. The 143-year old structure will be relocated, refurbished, and rebuilt as its new home during a two-day public Barn Raising event on Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29. Descendants of the Herschberger-Miller family as well as several IAHC board members operated the scraper as well.
