The ALAH Knights Cross Country Teams were in action two times last week. The ladies traveled to Neoga for a dual meet with the Neoga/Cumberland Co-op. The host offered up a challenging loop with hills and rough terrain that challenged the athletes.
Leading the way for our girls were Ruby Burton and Emma Edwards. The freshman Burton wins the first varsity contest of her high school career traveling 3 miles in 22:39. Edwards runs to 2nd place with a season best of 24:04. Lindsay Rohacs is the 3rd
Knight across placing 8th overall in 28:10. Evanger Wiley and Grace Romine run to 11th (30:39) and 13th (32:19) respectively to finish the teams scoring. Romine’s time is over a one minute PR. They drop a close one to the hosts 26-32. The ladies run next in Tuscola at 10am Saturday, October 17 in Wimple Park for the Warrior Classic.
The ALAH boys traveled to Peoria on Saturday to run the First to the Finish meet on the state championship course in Detweiller Park.
A massive start of 641 runners left the starting boxes at 9:30am. The predicted heat and humidity set in and became a factor by end of the 3 mile event.
With many of the state’s best competing, Logan Beckmier swept to the lead by the half mile mark and kept the lead to the two mile mark. He eventually succumbed to a strong push from a Eureka runner who eventually wins the race. Beckmier finished 6th in a season best of 15:41 while teammate Jacob Adcock crosses in 23rd place also in a season best of 16:17. Caden Binder battles leg cramps to finish in 20:32 (356th) and Ryker Beckmier rolls thru in 22:51 (502nd).
The Knights do not factor in team scoring due to illness that has plagued the team since start of the season and still lingers with several runners.
The boys travel next Saturday with their female teammates to Tuscola for the Warrior Classic. This spectator friendly course offers an excellent opportunity to watch the Knight harriers compete against some of the state’s elite as several highly ranked girls and boys teams participate.
