The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Knights football team traveled to Macon for a non-conference match-up with the Meridian Hawks.

The Knights won the coin toss and deferred to the second half and the defense came out and set the tone for the game on their side of the ball. On Meridian’s first play the Knight’s Drew Cotton dumped the quarterback for a 5 yard loss. The Hawks could only manage to gain 3 yards on the series and were forced to punt.

The ALAH offense came out just as strong as the defense and would score on a 38 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kaden Feagin to Landon Waldrop on just their fourth play of their first possession. Chilton Ingram kicked the extra point and the visitors led 7-0 with 8:19 left in the first.

The Knights defense kept stopping Meridian and forced them to punt on their next two possessions while the offense would add two more scores before the end of the first quarter. The second touchdown in the game for ALAH was a 45 yard run by Feagin and the final score of the first quarter for the Knights was a 28 yard run by Waldrop. Chilton Ingram’s EP kicks were good and the lead was 21-0 at the end of the first.

Meridian put a long drive together on their first series in the second but once again the Knights’ defense stepped up huge with Feagin at safety picking off the Meridian QB 1 yard deep in the end zone and returning it 56 yards to the Hawks’ 45 yard line.

This time however the offense was unable to move the ball and were forced to punt.

On the next offensive series by the home team, a sack by ALAH senior Kody Kornewald put the Hawks at second and 19 and they were unable to gain any more yards and punted with 2:37 remaining in the half.

A couple of big penalties by Meridian gave the Knights great field position and the final td of the first half was a 4 yard run by Feagin. Ingram’s kick was good and the visitors took a 28-0 lead into the half.

The Knights opened the second half receiving the kickoff and put together a clock consuming drive that started on their own 38 and moved to the home team’s 16 where Feagin connected with Jayce Parsons on a 16 yard pass for a score. After Ingram’s kick the lead was 35-0 with 7:30 left in the third.

Linebacker Noah Garrett ended the Hawks next series by intercepting another pass thrown by quarterback Roy Ralston at the 6:07 mark of the third.

ALAH again took only four plays to score on a 15 yard run by Waldrop. The EP kick by Ingram was good and the visitors led 42-0 and with 4:55 left in the third would play with a running clock for the rest of the game.

Meridian managed to put a score on the board with a 1 yard run by Ralston with 8:50 left in the game. The kick was no good and the score was 42-6 in favor of the Knights.

ALAH would tack one more score on during their last possession in which Drew Cotton had a big 53 yard run and Jayce Parsons ended the scoring snagging a 4 yard pass from Noah Garrett. Ingram missed the extra point kick and the final score was 48-6.

The Knights stay on the road for two more weeks with next week’s game being at Villa Grove on Friday, September 9.
