Superintendent Cheek Addresses School Concern

Last Wednesday evening August 24 the Arthur CUSD #305 released information to parents and posted on their social media platforms the following statement: “We are communicating this evening to inform you that we were made aware of some concerning comments that were allegedly made by a student.  We have taken immediate action regarding the alleged comments, which include contacting and involving the local police department in the investigation.  In consultation with the police department, we feel the situation has been handled and school will resume tomorrow.  Out of an abundance of caution, we will have a police presence at the high school tomorrow.  We thank those that provided the Administration the information and we also are grateful for the quick response and support from our local police department.”

In a follow-up statement to the newspaper, Superintendent Cheek said, “We were made aware of the situation later in the evening and acted quickly.  Mrs. Seegmiller, Mr. Seal and myself were at the school that evening working through the situation with local police.  Once we were able to work through some of the details we immediately communicated via phone message, email messaging, and through our social media platforms.  As we mentioned in the message, we had a police presence that morning out of an abundance of caution because we wanted students, staff and parents to feel comfortable.”
