ALAH Cross Country Opens At Clinton Light It Up Invite

Knights Senior Logan Beckmier, far right, earned the 4th place medal in the annual Clinton Light It Up Invitational. Logan’s time of 16:03.52 was 25 seconds better than his time at last year’s meet. The Cross Country Knights will compete in the Charleston XC Invitational next Saturday, September 3 at E.I.U.. Starting time for the Girls race is 9:15 a.m. with the boys to go at 10:00 a.m.

The ALAH Cross Country team opened their season at the Clinton Light It Up Invite on Saturday Night August 27. Running under the lights, conditions were cooler than a year ago but still humid and muggy.

After an Open race dominated by Normal University High (first 9 finishers), the Lady Knights gathered in Box #10. Included in the field were many of the state’s elite 1A teams including #2 preseason Normal University High. They would finish first in team standings and were led by an incredible opening effort of 17:05 by Freshman Natalie Bierbaum. Remember that name folks!

The first Knight across the mat was Ruby Burton. Her maiden effort for ALAH resulted in a time of 22:33.8 to finish 49th out of 97 runners. Emma Edwards starts her final cross country campaign placing 68th in 24:31. She was followed by Evanger Wiley (24:32), Lindsay Rohacs (25:32), Kimberly Krutsinger (26:53), and Grace Romine?(33:33).

Having this first meet under their belts the girls look forward to improving their times in Charleston on the course at EIU next Saturday morning.

At 8:15pm, the boys went off for their 3 mile race at the report of Starter Bob Rice’s pistol. Logan Beckmier went to the lead thru the 1st mile followed closely by the Adcocks. Beckmier engaged in battle for the next 2 miles with runners from U-High, Delavan and Cerro Gordo. He would eventually finish 4th in a career season opening best of 16:03. Lyle and Jacob Adcock come through in 11th (16:43) and 12th (16:44) respectively. These were also career season opening best. Caden Binder finished the Knight’s scoring results with a 49th place effort in a 50 second PR of 18:45. Excellent opener for the Knight’s sophomore.

The boys only ran 4 and did not tally in the team standings. State preseason #1 Normal U-High was dominate scoring 42 points to 100 for second place Clinton.

Next up, Charleston Invite at EIU at 9:00am next Saturday September 3.
