ALAH CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW 2022

Boys Ranked as high as #10 Preseason

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond HS Cross Country team enters the 2022 campaign with much optimism. Bringing back 3 of the top 4 runners from the boys State Runner-up squad of 2021 as well as a returning girl sectional qualifier bodes well for this season.

On the boys side, the senior dominated team is led by returning All Stater, Logan Beckmier. He hopes to improve on his 13th place finish at Detweiller Park come state championship time. His two senior mates, Lyle and Jacob Adcock were top 50 runners at state in 2021 and are amongst the top 25 returning athletes this fall. ALAH is the ONLY Class 1A team to return 3 top 25 runners. Filling out the boys roster are senior Connor Edmonds and sophomore Caden Binder. These two put in an excellent amount of summer work and early workouts show them both to be much improved.

The boys will be running another upgraded schedule every weekend against the top ranked teams in Illinois. Goals include repeating as Lincoln Prairie Conference champions as well as repeating as IHSA Regional and Sectional winners. This group believes they have the ability to return to the podium at Detweiller Park in November.

The Lady Harriers will be dominated by an excellent group of newcomers! Led by 2021 Sectional qualifier, Senior Emma Edwards, this group has the potential to accomplish lofty goals never before reached by a girls squad at ALAH.

After an excellent outdoor track season, Edwards returns in excellent condition for her final harrier campaign. Joining her is junior Evanger Wiley for her first cross country campaign. Lindsay Rohacs enters her second season with the competitive grit she exhibits on the hardwood. An excellent trio of freshmen round out the 2022 edition. Junior High State medalist, Ruby Burton has looked very good in workouts and was the Knight’s #1 finisher at the Wabash Valley 5k in late July. Joining her is fellow frosh Kimberly Krutsinger. Kim’s efficient running style has caused her to be a pleasant surprise in summer workouts. Grace Romine adds depth from the freshman class and hopes to follow the footsteps of former Knight’s standout, big brother

Austin Romine. Austin is finishing his final season competing for Eastern Illinois University.

As usual, our area is loaded with outstanding teams. On the boys side, Decatur St Teresa, SJO, and Monticello are top 10 preseason teams. Our boys will see the state’s preseason #1 (Normal U-High) at their season opener under the lights at Clinton HS.

Unity’s defending state champion girls bring back a loaded squad. Monticello and SJO as well as Shelbyville and Urbana Uni High will be very good as well.
