Bobbi Renshaw Parsley has resided in Atwood most of her life. Bobbi is only 49 years old, and in need of a new heart. She has a condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy along with congestive heart failure. Bobbi wasn’t a smoker, but still has the heart problem and is in great need of a heart transplant.
Valerie Reynolds Griffin, a friend of Bobbi, is planning a benefit spaghetti dinner with garlic bread, dessert and beverage on Saturday, September 10, from 4-7 p.m. at the United Church of Atwood Fellowship Hall. Suggested donation is $10 per adult and $8 per child under 10 years of age.
This is where the community needs to pull together and help a resident in need. Put yourself in Bobbi’s position, she has struggled with this for several years. She was recently taken to Carle where her heart stopped and luckily, they were able to bring her back. She was flown to Barnes Hospital, St. Louis where her doctor is located. Her heart function was as low as 2%. A device called a LVAD (Left Ventricular Assistant Device) pump was installed. This is to keep her alive until she can receive a new heart. Without this device she would not survive.
Your presence is needed at the benefit on September 10 to raise funds to help Bobbi and her family as the expenses climb. Bobbi is a former A-H student and Tuscola graduate, wife, mother of Hannah Swarms of Hammond, and grandmother. She and her husband Joe have been married for 31 years. She is the daughter of Sue Pepple of Atwood.
Living approximately 150 miles from Barnes Hospital, expenses have taken a toll on the low-income couple. Family is helping when and where they can, but she needs our help. If you are unable to attend the benefit, donations can be mailed to: A Heart for Bobbi, 201 S. White Oak St., Camargo, IL 61919. A go fund me page has also been set up by her cousin Lisa Causey Brazzale at gofundme.com with the title: “A Heart for Bobbi.” If you cannot attend the dinner you can stop by during the dinner and leave a bid for the silent auction
If you are interested in donating a good or service for the event, please contact Valerie Griffin at 217-433-5463 or Hannah Swarms 217-552-9380. All donations are appreciated. Donation jars are located at Kels or First State Bank of Atwood.
Anyone who would like to donate to the silent auction, which will be held at the benefit dinner, contact Valerie at 217-433-5463 or Hannah, 217-552-9380.
