Smile, security cameras coming to Fletcher Park

Staff Writer

The Mt. Zion Village Board met on July 18 and approved a quotation to put security cameras up at Fletcher Park.

A few months ago Fletcher Park suffered damage due to vandals. The vandals caused extensive damage to the air condition unit at the Fletcher Park Recreation Center. The cost to repair the damage is expected to be over $10,000.

According to Mt. Zion Police Chief Adam Skundberg it is believed that the people involved got on top of the air condition unit that is eight feet high in the air and jumped up and down on it basically to break it. When the air condition unit kicked on for the first time since last summer, the motor burned out from the damage.

Also during that time, the men’s restroom at the outdoor pavilion has also been vandalized at least twice. When the bathrooms opened the vandalism was noticed including the stall being pulled out of the wall.

The quote comes from BeckTech to install six cameras throughout Fletcher Park. The cameras will be video only and not audio. The amount to install the cameras is roughly under $16,000. BeckTech is a local vendor and will be able to fix the cameras if there are issues. The Village and Mt. Zion Police Department will have access to view the content of the cameras.

Other actions the Village Board approves were:

-Amending a chapter on the fireworks ordinance.

-A resolution to execute an addendum to the Policemen’s Benevolent Labor Agreement with the Village of Mt. Zion.

The next Mt. Zion Village Board meeting will be held on August 15 at 5:15 p.m.
