The Mt. Zion School Board met on June 21 and approved a contract negotiation agreement with the Mt. Zion Federation of Teachers as well as approved personnel related items.
Teachers from the Mt. Zion school district gathered at the meeting to be there to see the results of the contract negotiations. With a 4-1 vote, the negotiation was approved. Matthew Beavers, Kyle Janvrin, Kristi Niles and Kent Newton voted yes. Jeffrey Sams voted no.
“I just want to thank the teachers that spent their personal time and time over the summer to work with us on this contract,” Superintendent Travis Roundcount said. “I do think it’s a good contract for the district and the teachers and I appreciate you guys’s efforts on that.”
A personnel item was approved by the board at the meeting that stated that pending a drug test and background check for new employees and including a five percent annual pay raise for the presented list of 2022-2023 educational support personnel and 2022-2023 administrative contracts. The contracts were awarded to high school principal Justin Johnson, junior high school principal Julie Marquardt, intermediate school principal Randy Thacker, Elementary school principal and summer school director Gary Gruen, McGaughey principal Heather Ethell, director of curriculum and tech only William Rocket and special education administrator Renea Smith.
“I think with these salary increases to support personnel that keeps us marketable with what we’re paying with the starting rates increasing as far as personnel recommendation,” Superintendent Roundcount said.
Others items approved or discussed at the board meeting included:
-Restraint, time-out and isolated timeout reduction plan.
-The first reading of the 2022-2023 Co-Curricular Rules and Regulations Guide.
The next Mt. Zion School Board Meeting will be held on July 19 at 6:30 p.m.
