What a day filled with so many things as thousands rolled into Arthur on Saturday, June 25 for the annual Freedom Celebration. Festivities kicked-off with the Arthur Area Association of Commerce’s parade starting at 2 pm as hundreds of spectators lined the streets to see the always popular Belgian horse hitches (sponsored by Tri-County Welding), queens, antique tractors and cars, firetrucks, politicians, local businesses, and of course the Niagara Falls Fellows accompanies by “Uncle Sam”. (Pictured above) The family of the late John McGrath was this year’s Grand Marshals for the parade and pictured are (bottom) Macie Greer, Haley McGrath, Jody McGrath, and Chris Greer. (Top) Shaughn Hoops, Lily Hoops, Bowyer McGrath, Leighton Poulos, and David McGrath. “Take Pride in America” was this year’s theme as well over 160 entries participated. Following the parade everything moved to Jurgens Park as the Arthur Rotary Club hosted their big event which included concession stands/vendors galore offering a wide variety of food and treats, music by special guests Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets, three skydivers from Taylorville with the last one bringing in the American flag on the football field, all leading up to main event of the fireworks display. The Niagara Falls Fellows, under the direction of Larry Schlabach, returned to launch a battery of fireballs including Vesuvius along with the gigantic and amazing fireworks display by J&M Displays, Inc.
