Mt. Zion Village Board swears in new officer

The Mt. Zion Village Board swore in a new police officer at last week’s monthly meeting.

Gaige Floyd swore in as the newest officer of the Mt. Zion Police Department. Floyd is a graduate of Argenta-Oreana High School and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Officer Floyd headed off to the academy last Sunday where he will be there for 14 weeks.

The board also approved the reappointment of Seth Baker to the Mt. Zion Police Pension Board. Baker expressed a desire to remain on the commission and will stay until April 2023.

The board also approved the appointment of Phillip Tibbs to the Mt. Zion Planning Commision and Zoning Board of Appeals. Tibbs is an attorney with Geisler Law Offices in Decatur, Illinois.

Tibbs is replacing Brian Zuber who’s term ends December 31, 2025.

The next Mt. Zion Village Board meeting will be held on June 20 at 5:15 p.m.
