Knight’s Track State Success

ALAH’s Max Allen Medals at State!! ALAH senior Max Allen stands on the #2 spot on the medal podium with the other medalists from the 400 meters at State. Max’s time of 49.28 lowered the new ALAH boys’ high school record of 49.83 that he set in the prelims on Thursday.

Representatives of the ALAH boys track team traveled to Charleston Thursday and Saturday for the IHSA State Championships held at Eastern Illinois University. A three man contingent entered the meet in every individual running event except the Hurdles.

Thursday, Max Allen tackled three events. He found most success in the 400 meters. He wins his heat to automatically qualify for finals while traveling one lap faster than any other in school history going 49.83 seconds. Max barely misses the 200 finals by .03 seconds running 22.67 to finish 10th overall. His 100 time of 11.25 ranked 17th overall.

Also on Thursday, Logan Beckmier ran the 1600 prelim in a PR of 4:33.14 to finish 14th just missing finals as top 12 qualified. Jace Green was right behind in 14th running 4:33.52. Jace also competed in the 800 prelims logging a non qualifying time of 2:06.55. Green finishes his Senior campaign with a first trip to the big blue oval before embarking on his college career at Western Illinois University.

On Saturday, near perfect conditions met the competitors for 3 classes of finals. Beckmier was the first Knight to compete. He lined up against a plethora of all staters in the 3200. Logan would travel 8 laps in 10:01.99 to finish 11th overall, just missing the medal awards stand.

In the 400 meter championship, Max Allen blazed the opening 200. He had a 1 meter lead coming off the north curve of Obrien Stadium. Powell of Pleasant Plains followed and drew close as the pair battled down the home stretch with Powell out-leaning Allen at the finish to win by .04 seconds. Max’s time of 49.28 breaks his school record set 2 days earlier by over half a second. His runnerup finish completes one of the most dominant season’s by a Knight sprinter in recent years.

Congratulations to all three Knights for their efforts at state. Next up for the boys and girls track squads is their spring awards program on the evening of June 2nd in the high school gyms.
