The Mt. Zion school board approved the second reading of the 2022-2023 Student Handbook changes except it changed the dress code changes back to where it was last year.
In the new handbook changes in the dress code section a part was to be crossed out where plunging necklines, bare midriffs, shirts with spaghetti straps, halter tops and strapless shirts will be allowed. Shirts/pants with see-through material that allow undergarments to be visible, shorts and skirts that do not cover the hip or backside, sunglasses, head apparel and pajama bottoms will all still be disallowed.
Previously all were disallowed and are continued to be disallowed due to the board wanting to stay consistent with last year’s dress code.
Other changes inside of the student handbook included tha sophomores will no longer be accepted into National Honors Society since most chapters do not let sophomores in. Also students will be allowed to wear smartwatches during the day and listen to earbuds during passing period without it being disallowed.
The school board also approved that the final calendar day of the 2021-2022 school year will be May 26. This is because the school district had to use eight emergency days this year.
The next Mt. Zion school board meeting will be held on June 21 at 6:30 p.m.
