Personal Record Fest At Shelby Open for ALAH Track Team Members

A select group of thinclads represented ALAH at the Shelby Open on Friday May 13. This meet hosted by Shelbyville High School has developed into possibly THE BEST 1A meet in the state. Many meet records were broken with marks that are state #1’s.

This event invites and attracts an elite group of distance runners every year. The Knights did not disappoint.

In the 800, the ever improving Jacob Duzan sped to 3rd with a PR of 2:03.79 that is within a second of state qualifying. He would be the highest placing of the meet for ALAH.

The 1600 is where the state’s elite lined up to compete. Multi-time state champ Drew Rogers from Herscher set the pace blazing 4 laps in 4:14:55. Just behind is State Cross Country Champ Ryder James in 4:17. State 800 Champ Eli Mojonnier is 3rd in 4:21. State 800 1A leader, Isaac Stanford of Flora is 4th in 4:23.

Chasing in this elite group is Knight’s Senior Jace Green who grinds out an 8 second Personal Best of 4:27.66 finishing 5th while out leggging Charley Mabry of SJO. Green’s time is among the top performances in school history and is 12 seconds under Sectional State qualifying time.

In the previous 1600 flight, Lyle Adcock battles stiff competition and drops an incredible 16 second PR to finish 13th overall in 4:43.99. His time wins lots of meets in this part of the world regardless of class size.

Of note, there were over 20 PRs set in the 1600 with 23 runners breaking the 5 minute barrier.

The Knights competing in the 3200 dealt with warmer temperatures early in the meet and both Logan Beckmier and Jake Adcock have had some illness issues to contend with. Regardless they place 4th and 8th while not running their best. Logan goes 10:19 and Jake finishes in 10:36.

In the throws, Austin Abercrombie flings the platter 134’3” to finish 5th behind CHBC’S state leader while Tanner Beckmier throws within 2” of his PR going 119’10”. Abercrombie pitches the Shot 40’7.5” while Jacob Tighe throws 37’1”. Neither throw placed in top 8.

Sophomore Landon Waldrop continues his consistent season placing 5th in the Triple Jump (39’2.5”) and 8th in the 110 Hurdles (16.80). Senior Keaton Korando sped to a time of 12.80 in the 100 while Alex Rexroad marked a Long Jump of 15’5.5” and Triple Jump of 29’4.75”.

Please consider making the short drive to support the tracksters as they compete for state qualifying marks and attempt to repeat as Sectional Champions.
