MTZ girls track wins sectionals in route to state

The Mt. Zion girls track and field won the IHSA 2A Sectionals at Tolono Unity last week. En route to the sectional championship, the Braves sent seven individuals and two relay teams to the IHSA 2A State Championship in Charleston this week.
In the 800 meters, Ashleigh Anderson won the event with a time of two minutes and 22 seconds earning her a spot to compete in Charleston. In the 1600 meters, Sofia Munoz crossed the line in five minutes and 18 seconds to finish in third place and qualify to compete in Charleston.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Lydia Trump finished in fifth place with a time of 52.38 seconds and will compete in Charleston. In the 4×400 relay, the Braves’ team of Anderson, Munoz, Brooklyn Kondritz and Hillary Owens finished in second place with a time of four minutes and 12 seconds and will compete in Charleston.
In the 4×800 relay, the Braves’ team of Camille Mavis, Emma Mallory, Emma Crowley and Munoz finished in first place with a time of nine minutes and 54 seconds and will compete in Charleston.
In the high jump, Rhiannon Marshall placed in second place with a jump of 1.57 meters and will compete in Charleston. In the Pole Vault, Braves’ teammates of Kondritz and Alexa Weter finished in first and third place which will qualify them to compete in Charleston.
The last Braves to qualify for Charleston was Hannah Sago in the triple jump. Sago jumped a personal record jump of 10.45 meters and finished in first place.
This week the Mt. Zion girls track and field team will compete at the IHSA 2A State Championship this weekend. The Mt. Zion boys track and friend team will compete at IHSA 2A Sectionals at Tolono Unity.
