Cerro Gordo Bement Lady Broncos, Jazzi Hicks & Bella Zigler Qualify for State

CGB senior Bella Zigler leaps into the long jump pit at the IHSA Girls’ Sectional at Sullivan last Thursday. Bella’s jump of 5.16m or 16’ 11” was good for second place and that place also qualified her for the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. The Lady Broncos finished in fourth place out of seventeen teams in the team scoring.

The CGB Lady Broncos competed in the IHSA Class 1A Sectional track and field meet at Sullivan on Thursday, May 12. As a team they finished in fourth place out of 17 teams entered in the meet.

Jazzi Hicks, after earning two conference championships in the past Monday’s LPC meet came home with a sectional title in the shot put. Her throw of 11.26m or 36’ 11” was the best of the twenty-nine competitors in the event. The throw was also a personal record for Jazzi and will send her to the IHSA State Track and Field meet preliminary rounds on Thursday, May 19.

Senior Bella Zigler also advanced to the State Pre-lims with a second place finish in the long jump. Bella’s leap of 5.16m or 16’ 11” was also a PR for her. Both girls will take part in the IHSA State Class 1A pre-lims on Thursday, May 19. Starting times for those can be found on ihsa.org and at press time were not posted yet.
