Knights softball picks up four wins, drops one to Paris

The ALAH softball team had an extremely busy week playing five games last week as the rains held off but the winds increased drastically. Their record stands at 12-5 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
ALAH holds off St. Joe as 4-run deficit is nearly erased
The Knights built a four-run lead in the third inning and then held off St. Joseph-Ogden’s charge for a 7-6 victory this past Saturday. The Spartans put up four runs in the failed comeback as three players fueled the rally with RBIs.
There was plenty of action on the basepaths as ALAH collected 12 hits and St. Joseph-Ogden had 11.
ALAH got things started in the first inning when Kailee Otto drew a walk, scoring one run. They pulled away for good with five runs in the third inning as Cheyenne Chupp homered on a 0-2 count, scoring four runs and Alayna Plank singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Maddie Schweighart was credited with the victory as the righthander allowed 11 hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.
The Knights 12 hits came from Kaci Beachy, Chupp, Plank, and Mackenzie Condill who all had multiple hits. Beachy led the team with four hits in five at bats.
Knights three pitchers combine in no-hitter to defeat Cerro Gordo-Bement
ALAH’s three pitchers didn’t allow a single hit, as they defeated Cerro Gordo-Bement 26-0 at home on Friday.
The Knights fired up the offense in the first inning as an error scored one run for ALAH and scored 11 runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught came from walks by Alisha Frederick, Kauffman, Layla Deel, Maggie Benedict, and Brooke Bolsen, singles by Kat Perez and Alayna
Plank, and Riley Robinson, and a fielder’s choice by Danaysha Stutzman.
Mackenzie Condill led the team to victory by driving in four runs. Condill went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in runs on a walk in the first, a single in the second, and a walk in the third.
Maddie Schweighart earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle allowing zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Deel and Kauffman entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Ryli Kauffman got Makenna
Robinson to hit into a fielder’s choice to get the last out of the game.
Riley Welch took the loss for the Broncos surrendering 19 runs on nine hits over two innings, striking out three. Robinson started the game for CGB as the hurler went one inning, allowing seven runs on two hits.
ALAH totaled 11 hits coming from Condill, Deel, and Perez, all who managed multiple hits in the game. Condill and Perez each collected three hits to lead the team.
With Maddie on the mound, ALAH shuts out Blue Ridge
Maddie Schweighart threw a shutout to lead the Knights past Blue Ridge 9-0 as they were on the road Thursday, April21.
ALAH secured the victory thanks to five runs in the fourth inning. They put the pressure on, led by singles by Kaci Beachy, Alisha Frederick, and Ryli Kauffman, and an error on a ball put in play by Mackenzie Condill.
The Knights got things started in the first inning when Ellie Schlieper induced Frederick to hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored.
Schweighart was the winning pitcher for ALAH as the righthander went seven innings, allowing zero runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking one.
Kailee Otto tallied one home run on the day in the third inning.
The Knights tallied 11 hits as Condill, Kauffman, Otto, and Layla Deel each managed multiple hits. Otto led the team with three hits in four at bats.
Knights softball can’t catch up to Paris
ALAH watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 12-3 loss to Paris on Tuesday at home.
Paris scored on a single by Emma Kemper in the first inning, a groundout by Caradan Hoffman in the first inning, a single by Kendall Mathews in the second inning, a groundout by Kemper in the second inning, and a single by Jayden Bishop in the second inning.
ALAH struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Paris, giving up 12 runs.
Paris got on the board in the first inning when Kemper singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and added five runs in the sixth.
Layla Deel took the loss for the Knights as she allowed six hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings.
ALAH totaled eight hits. Mackenzie Condill and Ryli Kauffman each racked up multiple hits. Condill led the team with three hits in four at bats.
Kauffman’s walk-off gives ALAH victory over Villa Grove
The Knights took Monday’s game on April 18 at home in dramatic fashion with a 17-16 walk-off victory over Villa Grove. The game was tied at 16 with the Knights batting in the bottom of the eighth when Ryli Kauffman singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
A four-run lead in the sixth inning was just enough for ALAH to hold off Villa Grove for the victory. Villa Grove scored five runs in the failed comeback as four Blue Devils came through with RBIs to lead the rally.
Villa Grove fired up the offense in the first inning when Maddie Schweighart threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Villa Grove. ALAH scored four runs in the second inning as Kaci Beachy, Kailee Otto, and Kauffman each drove in runs during the inning.
Schweighart led things off in the circle for the Knights as the righthander allowed 20 hits and 16 runs over eight innings, striking out eight and walking zero.
The Knights launched three home runs on the day as Beachy had a long ball in the sixth inning and Otto had a homer in the first and fifth innings.
ALAH collected 17 hits with Otto, Mackenzie Condill, Beachy, Kauffman, Layla Deel, and Alisha Frederick each racking up multiple hits. Otto led the team with four hits in four at bats.
