Sophie Monts reaches back for the baton handoff from Leighton Poulos in the seventh grade 4 X 4 relay in the home Invite on April 16. Brooklyn Peeler and Cassidy Rohacs would run the other two legs of the relay that had a time of 5:09.36 which was good for second place. Leighton was also meet champion in the 200 meters. The seventh grade girls were the third team champions for the Knights with the most points of any of the groups, 126!
ALAH seventh grader Preston Gingerich leads the field in the home stretch of the 1600 meters at the ALAH JH Invitational on Saturday, April 16. Preston would win the race in a time of 5:46.54. Just behind Preston is teammate Coye Grant who would finish in second place in a time of 5:48.85. Both of these times were PRs for the runners. Their 1-2 finish helped the seventh grade earn the first place trophy for the seventh grade boys’ division.
After two years the ALAH JH Invitational was back on the schedule and the Knights made a triumphant return by winning all four divisions at the meet on Saturday, April 16.
Team trophies were awarded to first and second place scoring teams.
The ALAH seventh grade girls scored 126 points to runners up Stewardson-Strasburg’s 73 and the eighth grade girls scored 81 to second place Arcola’s 61.
The boys won both their divisions also with the seventh grade scoring 99 points to Arcola’s 74 and the eighth grade taking first with 113 points to top Okaw Valley’s 85.
Other team scores for each group are in the ALAH results below.
In the girls’ seventh grade division individual event winners were Leighton Poulos in the 200 meters and Cassidy Rohacs in the 100 meter hurdles.
The seventh graders earned first place medals in two of the three relays contested in the meet.
Members of those relays were: 4 X 1 Reece Oye, Sophie Monts, Riley Strode, and Poulos and the 4 X 2 relay of Rylie Ward, Embrey Reardon, Brooklyn Peeler, and Rohacs.
The eighth grade had two double event winners with Alex Clark taking firsts in the shot put and discus and Ruby Burton winning the 800 and 1600 meters. Very nice medals were given to the first three places in each event at the meet.
For the boys seventh grader Brennon Hutson scored first place points in the 400 meters and Preston Gingerich ran a PR taking first in the 1600 meters.
The seventh grade Knights scored in eleven of the thirteen events to amass their 99 points.
The eighth grade team used points from six first place finishes including double winners, Payton Warrior in the 100 and 200 meters and Easton Frederick in the long jump and 110 meter hurdles, plus scoring in twelve of the thirteen events, racking up points with two athletes scoring in all six of the running events to account for their 113 points.
They also had two relay first place finishes with Easton and Payton running legs on the 4 X 1 with Daylon Doggett and Dana Soard and with Justin Schrock and Cruz Hale on the 4 X 4 relay.
The Jr. High Knights have a quadrangular meet at Tuscola on Thursday, the 21st of April and then travel to nearby Arcola for their annual Invitational on Saturday, April 23.
