ALAH JH Boys Track Teams Pick Up 2 Victories against Arcola

Cooper Shoemaker takes the baton from Brennon Hutson in the 4 X 4 relay last Monday, April 4 in the home meet with Arcola. Preston Gingerich and Owen Herring would run the final two legs of the relay that won with a time of 4:55.57. Every point was important in the seventh grade division as the Knights narrowly beat Arcola 53-52.

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Jr. High boys track teams played hosts to nearby rivals the Arcola Purple Riders in a dual track and field meet on Monday, April 4. Both the seventh and eighth grade teams posted team victories with the seventh grade squad eeking out a one point win!

On the seventh grade side of the scoring Joshua Taylor was a double winner taking firsts in both the shot put and discus. Other winners for the seventh grade were Preston Gingerich in the 1600 and Brennon Hutson in the 400 meters. Hutson and Gingerich along with Cooper Shoemaker and Owen Herring brought home two more firsts in the 800 and 1600 meter relays.

For the eighth grade Knights in the meet, Cash Hale in the high jump and 400m and Payton Warrior in the 100 and 200m were double winners. Taking individual firsts in other eighth grade events were Easton Frederick in the long jump; Kamden Morfey, discus; Cruz Hale, 1600; and Ryker Beckmier, 800m. The eighth graders swept the relays with Brayden Leech, Frederick, Cruz Hale and Warrior taking the 4 X 2 relay; Beckmier, Daylon Doggett, Trey Strode and Dana Soard winning the 4 X 1; and Cruz and Cash Hale along with Frederick and Warrior crossing the finish line first in the 4 X 4 relay.

The JH Knights were to host a triangular meet on April 11 with Villa Grove and Cumberland before hosting their annual ALAH Jr. High Invite on Saturday, April 16 with eight teams competing in the meet.
