The Mt. Zion school board met on March 22 and approved the bid for the new roof on the Mt. Zion Intermediate School and heard from a former employee during the public forum.
The bidding was awarded to Tremco and Industrial Service of Illinois. The supplies will be purchased through Tremco and the Industrial Service of Illinois will construct the new roof. The project’s cost is roughly $2.6 million.
There were five pre-bids that showed up to the meeting. There were two that chose to submit a bid and the lower bid was chosen. The project is supposed to take roughly 100 days and should be completed before school starts in the fall. This roof is expected to last 40 to 50 years after completion.
In the public forum, former bus driver Theresa Lane discussed during the public forum her termination and how she felt it was wrongful. Lane worked for 23 years and was never formally given a schedule. The reason behind her termination was falsifying time cards.
The board also heard a COVID-19 update from Mt. Zion Superintendent Travis Roundcount. The Mt. Zion school district reported three cases on March 1 and zero cases since.
The board also brought back bringing elementary students to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the meetings.
The Mt. Zion school board will meet next on April 19 at 6:30 p.m.
