Knights Accelerate At Top Times

MAX ALLEN IS STATE CHAMP!!!! Senior Max Allen of the Knights track team leads the way going into the last 100 meters of the 400 meter race at the Illinois Top Times Indoor State Championships last Friday. Max would hold off the Litchfield runner to win the race in a personal best time of 51.76 and earn a State Championship! Max also ran the 60 meters and earned an eighth place medal in the 200.

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School track squad completed the indoor portion of the 2022 season sending an elite group of qualifiers to the Illinois Top Times Championships March 25.

This long time event held at Illinois Wesleyan University’s beautiful Shirk Center serves as the Unofficial State Indoor Championship.

Sponsored by First to the Finish, athletes must record results ranking in the state’s top 12 to 24 marks in their respective event. The group of 7 athletes represent the largest contingent ever sent from our school to this prestigious event.

The Knight’s outstanding performer was Senior speedster Max Allen. Max brings a state championship back to Douglas County winning the 400 with an all time PR of 51.76. His time is also an indoor school record. In addition to his 400 effort, Max followed up with an 8th place 200M dash of 23.57. He also dropped a 60M PR of 7.32 in prelims, just missing the finals qualifier.

Alexa Miller was the lone Lady Knight to make the trip to Bloomington and had an excellent outing placing 5th in both of her events. She also drops a 60M PR in prelims dashing 8.10 and followed with an 8.14 in finals. She then went to the beach hitting the sand at 33’3” in the Triple Jump.

The distance crew continues to represent well. Logan Beckmier runs an indoor PR in the 3200 going 10:07.49 placing 7th. Jace Green finishes the 1600 in 11th at 4:42.95. The 4 x 800 relay quartet of Beckmier, Lyle Adcock, Jacob Duzan, and Green gather the 8th place medals in a season best of 8:50.96. Sophomore jumps specialist Landon Waldrop bounds to 9th in the Triple Jump with a 38’ 9 ¾” effort.

This week the full squad of Knight’s thinclads travel to Okaw Valley on March 30th and Warrensburg-Latham on Saturday April 2nd to kickoff the outdoor season.
