ALAH JH Boys Track Teams Open 2022 Season with Two Wins

Knights eighth grader Easton Frederick leads the way in the 110 meter hurdles at the home JH track meet on March 21. Easton would win the race in a time of 17.94 seconds. Knight teammates Daylon Doggett, behind Easton, would finish third in 20.26 and Ryker Beckmier, far left, would finish in 20.64 to take fourth.

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Jr. High boys track teams, coached by long time JH Coach Don McCarthy and assisted by Melissa Hopkins, kicked off their 2022 season at home on Monday, March 21.

On an unusually warm night for a home opener, both the seventh and eighth grade teams took first in the team standings over Okaw Valley, Villa Grove and Tri-County.

Joshua Taylor with victories in the shot put and discus and Brennon Hutson in the 110M hurdles and 400 meters were double event winners for the seventh grade squad. Others finishing in first place were Cooper Shoemaker, high jump; Preston Gingerich, 1600M; Coye Grant, 800M; the 4 X 200 meter relay of Faemus Davison, Anden Berry, Dylan Ingersoll, and Coye Grant and the 4 X 400 relay of Brennon Hutson, Cooper Shoemaker, Preston Gingerich, and Owen Herring.

For the eighth grade Knights, Payton Warrior won the 100 and 200 meters; Easton Frederick, 110M hurdles; Cash Hale, 400 meters; and Ryker Beckmier, 800M. Not only did Cruz Hale take first in the 1600 meters but the 8th grade Knights swept the event with Trey Strode, Justin Schrock, Ryker Beckmier and Tristan Keagle following Cruz across the finish line in second through fifth place. The eighth grade also swept the three relays with Justin Schrock, Daylon Doggett, Trey Strode, and Dana Soard running the 4 X 200 meter relay; Brayden Leech, Easton Frederick, Cruz Hale and Payton Warrior teaming up on the 4 X 100 relay and Cruz Hale, Frederick, Cash Hale and Warrior finishing the meet winning the 4 X 400 meter relay.
