ALAH Track Teams Open At EIU
Knights distance runners #4 Jace Green and #5 Logan Beckmier compete in the 1600 meters at the EIU HS indoor meet on March 5. Jace would finish in fourth with a time of 4:42.95 while Logan would come in seventh at 4:47.83. The 1600 competition featured some of the best runners in the state including our own Knights. The Knights’ boys team’s next competition is at the Mt. Zion Invitational on Wednesday, March 9 at Mt. Zion High School indoor facility with field events beginning at 4:30 p.m. and track events at 5:00 p.m.
Both the Girls and Boys track teams opened their seasons in Charleston at the annual EIU High School Invite held in Lantz Fieldhouse. The Lady Knights led off on Friday afternoon March 4th. Featuring 40 plus schools from class 1A, 2A, and 3A competing together, the fillies had a number of quality season opening marks.
Leading the way, and scoring the girls only points, was Senior Alexa Miller. Coming out of a slow heat, she blazed the 60 meters in 8.22 seconds to place 5th out of 84 competitors. In the shot put, Makayla Harsbarger places a very credible 13th out of 57 throwers with a nice opener of 28’9”.

The boys team traveled to Charleston Saturday morning March 5th. Running the same multi class format at the girls, the boys event featured 58 schools, 40 of them scoring at least 1 point.
The Knight’s competed favorably all day finishing in a tie for 6th with Columbia with 25 points. Normal Community wins with 47 followed by Belleville West, Mt Zion, Cowden- Herrick, and Pleasant Plains.
The Knights placed in numerous events. The 4 x 800 relay team got the scoring started running 8:55.53 for 5th. Logan Beckmier, Lyle Adcock, Jacob Duzan, and Jace Green made up this quartet.
Max Allen runs a great 200 meter opener of 23.44 to place 2nd of 42 sprinters. Triple Jumper Landon Waldrop bounds to 3rd place with a jump of 39’4”.
The final Knight’s scorers were in the highly anticipated 1600. Green and Beckmier found themselves seeded into the fastest heat along with an elite lineup featuring 2 state champions. The locals fared well with Green’s closing rush securing a 4th place finish in 4:42.95 and Beckmier hitting the line 7th in 4:47.83.
