The Mt. Zion Village Board met on January 19 and approved a redevelopment agreement and accepted the annual report from the Mt. Zion Board of Police Commissioners.

The redevelopment agreement came from an action on an ordinance that authorized the execution of a redevelopment agreement to Mt. Zion Route 21 Tax Increment Financing District II and Mt. Zion Business Development District No. 1 between the Village of Mt. Zion and Jansen Diesel LLC.

The location will be at 640 North State Highway 121. The vote came at 4-0 as both Mayor Luke Williams and Kevin Fritzche abstained from the vote and discussion.

Once completed this project will have an estimated value of $500,000 and have an estimated retail sales between $250,000-$300,000 annually. The developer plans to employ four full-time employees. The estimated project costs are $377,180.

The annual report from the Mt. Zion Board if Police Commissioners included information such as that they swore in two probationary police officers. Patrick Cook was sworn in in March and Dustin St John was sworn in in July. Cool resigned unexpectedly in November.

Due to the sudden resignation, the commission began the process to establish a new eligibility register for police officers, seeking both entry and lateral applications. The current eligibility roster was exhausted. The application period closed on January 14 and the orientation and written test occurred on January 15.

Commissioner Jennifer Harris sought reappointment and received it after an action at the meeting. Her new term will expire on December 31, 2023. Commissioner Robert Kistenfeger also retained his role and his new term will expire on December 31, 2024.

Other actions approved at the Mt. Zion Village Board meeting were:

-Approving resolution No.2022-2 which was a resolution approving and authorizing the transfer of right-of-way to the state of Illinois.

Approved Ordinance No. 2022-3 that amended chapter 71- traffic schedules in the code of ordinances for the Village of Mt. Zion.

The next Mt. Zion Village Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 22 at 5:15 p.m.
