2021 WSOY Community Food Drive awards ceremony

The 2021 WSOY Community Food Drive awards ceremony was hosted at Mt. Zion high school last week. Mt. Zion High School raised the most money of any of the schools that participated.
The WSOY Community Food Drive went on for 20 years until this year it was announced this is the final year of the event. In that time the event has had a goal that no family in the community should be hungry.
In 2021, there was a $1 million donation from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation as well as sizable donation from A.D.M., the Andreas foundation, community partners and the community at large. The WSOY Community Food Drive presented grants that represent almost 95% of a three-year allocation to each organization.
Mt. Zion High School received a check for $2,500. In second place, St. Patrick’s school received $1,500. St. Theresa came in third place receiving $1,000. Eisenhower High school came in fourth place receiving $750. Our Lady of Lourdes School wrapped out the top-five receiving $500.
The Mt. Zion Food Pantry received $11,500. The top-three amounts of grants received by organizations were the Catholic Charities Food Pantry received $373,900. The Northeast Community Fund received $355,100. The Salvation Army Food Pantry received $241,900.
