MTZ cross country finishes strong at State

The Mt. Zion Cross Country program stops for a photo with family, friends and fans after the IHSA 2A State Tournament.

The Mt. Zion Cross Country team competed in the IHSA 2A State Tournament last weekend. The Braves finished in 12th (Girls) and 22nd (Boys) place in the tournament.

For the girls, this was their fourth straight trip to the State Tournament at Detweiller Park in Bloomington. Sofia Munoz led the girls side finishing in 27th place crossing the line at 18 minutes and 16 seconds.

Senior Ashleigh Anderson crossed the line at 18 minutes and 22 seconds and finished her Mt. Zion Cross Country career with a 32nd place in the State Tournament. Renee Ballard was the next Brave to finish with a time of 19 minutes and 22 seconds to finish in 117th place.

Hailey Betzer finished in 139th place with a time of 19 minutes and 49 seconds.

Senior Emma Mallory finished her Mt. Zion Cross Country career with a time of 20 minutes and 11 seconds placing her at 192. Ellie Fritzsche followed with a time of 20 minutes and 15 seconds and 196th place.

On the boy’s side, Julian Baker led the Braves. Baker finished in 28th place crossing the line at 15 minutes and 33 seconds. Daniel Grauer was the next Brave to finish at 114th place with a time of 16 minutes and 17 seconds. Lyncoln Koester crossed the line at 16 minutes and 21 seconds to give him 127th place.

Sam Atkinson finished with a time of 17 minute and 28 seconds earning him 219th place.

Senior Byron Gallardo finished his Mt. Zion cross country career with a time of 17 minutes and 23 seconds placing him in 215th place. Senior Kolby Koslofski finished his Mt. Zion cross country career with a time of 17 minutes and 31 seconds and a 223rd place finish.

Carson Davis finished with a time of 18 minute and two seconds to place 230th and rounded out the Braves competitors.
