The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Knights played hosts to the Sangamon Valley Storm in the annual Homecoming football game on Friday, October 8. The Knights dominated the contest on offense scoring five touchdowns in the first quarter and also on defense intercepting three Storm passes and recovering four of their fumbles in the game.

The Knights received the opening kickoff and on the first play from scrimmage Kaden Feagin scored on a 60 yard run. Chilton Ingram kicked the extra point and with 10:58 left in the first quarter the home team led 7-0.

Once again Kaden would strike on the first play, this time on defense picking off SV quarterback Travis Hemphill at the Storm seven yard line. Max Allen playing once again after being out with an injury since the first game, got the call and scored on a 7 yard run. Chilton’s kick was good and the lead was 14-0.

Sangamon Valley went on a long drive on their next series moving from their own 23 and ended with a 9 yard td run by Chase Walters. He also ran in the two point conversion and put the Storm on the board trailing 14-8. It would be their only score of the first half.

Kaden Feagin picked up his second rushing touchdown in the game on the first play after the Storm’s kickoff. Kaden took the ball 68 yards into the end zone. Ingram’s kick was blocked and the Knights led 20-8 with 4:59 remaining in the first quarter.

Max Allen would come up big on defense on ALAH’s kickoff by forcing and recovering a fumble. Landon Waldrop would score the next td for the home team on a fourth and goal play from the 9. Ingram’s kick was good and the lead extended to 27-8 at the 2:16 mark of the first SV once again turned the ball over on a fumble that was recovered by the Knights’ Mason Allen with 1:25 left in the first. With 35.0 seconds remaining in the opening quarter Kaden scored his third td on an 8 yard run. The EP kick by Ingram was good and the Homecoming crowd was enjoying a 33-8 lead as the first quarter came to a close.

The second quarter would see only three touchdowns by the Knights with the defense keeping up the pattern of getting turnovers that led to scores.

Jayce Parsons intercepted a Storm pass at the 11:44 mark of the second and would be the next Knight to reach the end zone when he caught a 12 yard pass from Feagin for a touchdown with 8:37 remaining in the half. Ingram’s kick put the lead up to 40-8.

Yet again the ALAH defense came up with another stop this time forcing the Storm to punt. The punt snap sailed over the punter’s head and the ball was recovered by Bobby Schanuel. The short field led to a quick score. This time Feagin hit Noah Garrett with a 9 yard pass. The EP kick was good and the Knights led 47-8. The red, black and gold were not finished scoring yet.

Another Storm fumble recovered by Mason Allen, his second recovery gave the ball to the home team at the SV 45. Feagin had runs of 4 and 32 yards to put the ball close to pay dirt yet again. Jayce Parsons would haul in his second td pass in the game, this time of 5 yards.

Ingram’s kick gave the Knights a 54-8 lead with 3:42 left in the half.

The defense was not finished as the Knights’ Landon Waldrop intercepted a pass for the third pick by the Knight defense in the game. The Knights took a knee and the game went to halftime. With the 46 point lead the second half would be played with a running clock.

The Knights played their JV players in the second half. The Storm would score four touchdowns in the half giving them 38 points in the game. ALAH’s Waldrop scored for the Knights on a 57 yard run and with Ingram’s kick gave the Knights 61 making the final score 61-38 and sent the large Homecoming crowd home happy with the big win.

The Knights were scheduled to play the Argenta-Oreana Bombers next week but they have canceled the rest of their varsity season. At this time no game had been scheduled which would mean ALAH would pick up a forfeit win. The Knights host Villa Grove for their last regular season game on October 22.
