Golf Carts Must be Registered with Village of Atwood

Golf carts must be registered with the Village of Atwood to be driven on the street. Just last month we published an article regarding a change in the golf cart ordinance. However, there are some residents that feel ordinances do not apply to them.

The board has ordinances for the good of the town and its residents. The board amended the golf cart ordinance on August 18, which was effective immediately. They did this because of complaints of underage children driving golf carts on village streets. This decision was made for the safety of everyone.

The Illinois Municipal League recommends the age of 21 to drive a golf cart on the street, but each board ultimately has the final Ordinance No. 21-O-03 for golf carts/UTVs is available at the village hall. Cost to register a golf cart/UTV is $75.00 first year, $50 yearly renewal.

At the August meeting the board amended the golf cart ordinance to read: drivers must be 16 years of age and have a valid driver’s license from any state. Renewal dates were changed to the regular calendar year, January 1-December 31. All residents are asked to please follow the village ordinances.
