Melissa Sue Phelps 51, of Mt. Zion, IL passed away at 8:18 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2021 in her residence.

A service to celebrate Melissa’s life will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. The family will receive friends for visitation Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. Melissa was born June 14, 1970, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Dennis M. and Janet L. (Deardorf) Gentry. She worked as a Registered Nurse for HSHS Hospice. Melissa married Vincent L. Phelps on March 21, 2015. She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She had a love for her dogs and cats, enjoyed music and attending concerts. She enjoyed many outdoor activities and was passionate about her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband: Vincent of Mt. Zion; children: Alexandria Smith (Christopher) of Mt. Zion, Ryan Gould (Shamika) of Sycamore, IL, Gabrielle Shewmaker (Joshua) of Moweaqua, and Avery Phelps of Mt. Zion; parents: Dennis and Janet Gentry of Bethany; brother: Michael Gentry (Sarah) of Bethany; grandchildren: Gabriel Smith, Elliott Smith, and Evelynn Smith all of Mt. Zion; niece: Hannah Gentry and nephew: Jonathan Gentry.

Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, one uncle and several cousins.
