MTZ girls tennis loses on the road against St. Thomas More

The Mt. Zion girls tennis team lost on the road this week against St. Thomas More 7-2. Their lone points came from Audrey Bradford and Peyton Schroeder.

Audrey Bradford played at the No. 2 slot for the Braves. She defeated her opponent Audrey Horn in both sets by a score of 6-2.

Schroeder played at the No. 5 slot for the Braves. She defeated Emma Graham with a 6-0 set and 6-3 set.

At the No. 1 slot St. Thomas More’s Maddy Swisher defeated Allison Bradford in two 6-0 sets. At the No. 3 slot St. Thomas More’s Nora Kelley defeated Alexis Mallory in two 6-4 sets.

At No. 4 St. Thomas More’s Kambyl Stipes defeated Kayla Schnipple in a 6-0 set and a 6-1 set. To wrap-up singles play St. Thomas More’s Sofia Vavrico defeated Piper Crowder in a 7-6 set and 6-0 set.

In doubles play, St. Thomas More won all three doubles points. In the No. 1 match, Swisher and Stipes defeated Allison Bradford and Mallory in with a 6-4 set and 6-2 set.

In the No. 2 match Horn and Kelley defeated Audrey Bradford and Schnipple. The Braves’ paid forced three sets and won one 6-3, but lost two straight sets.

In the No. 3 match, Graham and Vavrick defeated Schroeder and Crowder in a 6-0 set and a 6-1 set.

The Mt. Zion girls tennis team’s overall record drops to 1-2 on the season. This week the team will play its first meet on the road against Lincoln and then host Charleston for senior day.
