MTZ girls tennis defeats Casey-Westfield

The Mt. Zion girls tennis team defeated Casey-Westfield 7-2 in last week’s tennis action at the Mt. Zion tennis fields. Juniors Allison Bradford and Audrey Bradford each won their individual singles matches and their doubles match to help give the Braves a victory.

In singles play, at the No.1 slot, Alisson Bradford defeated Casey-Westfield’s Emma Mason by a score of 8-5. Audrey Bradford followed at the No.2 spot defeating Casey-Westfield’s Emily Sherwood 8-3.

At the No.3 slot senior Alexis Mallory suffered a narrow defeat to Casey-Westfield’s Sydney Carr. The match went to a first to 7 points tiebreaker at the end, that Carr would ultimately win the tiebreak 7-4 and give her team one of their two points and win the match 8-7.

At the No. 4 slot Kayla Schnipple defeated Addyson McDaniel 8-2. Peyton Schroeder and Angelina Henderson rounded out the last two Mt. Zion singles spots each earning wins to give the Braves a 5-1 lead.

In doubles play, the pair of Allison Bradford and Audrey Bradford defeated Casey-Westerfield’s pair of Sherwood and Emma Mason 8-7 and won the tiebreaker 7-4. The Casey-Westfield pair of McDaniel and Carr defeated Mt. Zion’s pair of Schnipple and Mallory 8-3 to earn its second point of the match.

The Braves would earn the last point of the match when Henderson and Pkiper Crowder defeated McKenzie Herlinger and Ellie Shull 8-1.

The Mt. Zion girls tennis team improved to 1-1 overall on the season. The Braves will travel to St. Thomas More and take them on a road match that will start at 4:30 p.m.
