Betty Jane Alcorn, 95, of Arthur, IL formerly of Arcola, IL passed away at 11:35 P.M. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the Edwards Funeral Home. Rev. Dwayne Kittle will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 23, 2021, at the funeral home.
Betty was born April 21, 1926, in Camargo, IL. She was a daughter of Ernest Roy and Eva Maire (Hallowell) Tate. She married Richard “Dick” Alcorn on February 7, 1948, in Arcola, IL. He passed away June 1, 1985.
Survivors include three children, Diane Stone and her husband Gary of Arthur IL, Albert Eugene Alcorn and his wife Linda of Arthur, IL and Tamera Sue Goodwin and her husband Donnie of Arcola, IL; three grandchildren, Scott Stone, of Cape Girardeau, MO, Paul Goodwin of Arcola, IL and Lisa Miller and her husband Steve of Arcola, IL; two step-grandchildren, Steve Stone of Lantana, FL and Curt Schroeder and his wife Cindy of Carrollton, GA; four step-great grandchildren, Alex Stone, Dylan and Taylor Schroeder and Sarah Miller; one sister, Pat Kittle and her husband Dwyane of Radford, VA and one brother-in-law, Dick Johnson of Charleston, IL.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dick Alcorn, and a sister Carol Johnson.
Betty was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcola, IL
Betty worked at the Finfgale Shoe Store in Arcola for several years. She later went to work for Arcola True Value and retired from there in 1997 after 16 ½ years of service. Following her retirement, she did volunteer work with RSVP in Coles County. Betty enjoyed cooking, reading, and playing card games like Hand and Foot and Pinochle. Bingo was also a favorite for her. Betty’s greatest joy came from just simply spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
