Memorial Day Events in Atwood

Memorial Day is right around the corner. To many it is a weekend of fun with family and friends, grilling out, boating, long weekend away, and much more. But Memorial Day is so much more than a day of fun, it is a day of observance, centered on acknowledging, remembering, and thanking the millions of people in uniform who gave their lives for this country. Before you take off on that outing, stop and give thanks to those brave heroes and the incredible sacrifice they made.

The James Reeder Post #770, Atwood American Legion, will have their annual Memorial Day Services at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 31, at Mackville Cemetery, west of Atwood.

Giving the address will be Woody White and Lanny Faulkner, Pastor and Former Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Atwood. Giving the opening and closing prayers will be Pastor Micheal Drake of the United Church of Atwood.

Bill & Mitch Fleming will present patriotic music and David Fleming will play taps.

Reading of the Roster from Lake Fork and Mackville Cemeteries will be Ken Caraway, Legion Commander and Donald Swartz. Legion members will present and retrieve the colors.

Prior to the Memorial Day services, enjoy a hearty breakfast with the Men’s Fellowship of the United Church of Atwood, 210 N. Main St., from 8:30-10:00 a.m. Cost will be by donation and all monies will go to the American Legion Post #770. The public is urged to attend both events.
