ALAH Girls Track at Unity, Boys Sprinters and Field Competitors at W-L, Distance Runners at Morton

ALAH track team members, Mason Allen in lane 4 and his brother, Max in lane 3 come down the straightaway in the 400 meter race in the meet at Warrensburg-Latham High School last Friday, May 22. Max, a junior, ran a PR of 54.92 and finished first in the race. Mason, a sophomore, also ran a PR of 57.73 and would take second.

Another one-two finish in a race for the Knights at the meet at W-L on May 22. This time it would be in the 200 meters with Finnian Davison, in lane 4, who would run a PR of 22.96 taking first place while Max Allen would finish second with another PR in the meet of 23.03. Finnian would also PR in the 100 meters with a time of 11.28 and come in second in that race.

On Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22, the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond track and field teams split up and competed in three different meets.

The girls’ squad went to Tolono Unity for their thirteen team Unity HS Girls’ Invitational. Some of the top girls in the area were present for a very tough competition. Scoring points for the Knights were Alexa Miller with a second place finish in the triple jump, (10.11m) and a fifth place finish in the 100M, (13.26). Brooke Clark took fifth in the discus with a throw of 28.00m to give the team 12 points.

The boys’ track team split their squad between a quadrangular meet at Warrensburg-Latham High School on Friday and a meet just for distance runners called the Morton Distance Gala on Saturday, May 22.

Winning events for the Knights at the quad meet were: Finn Davison, 200M, (22.96)PR; Max Allen, 400M, (54.92)PR; Austin Abercrombie, discus, (38.36m); and Landon Waldrop, long jump, (5.95m).

The distance runners from ALAH went all the way to Morton on Saturday to race against some very tough competition from all over the state, from Carbondale to several schools in the Peoria/Morton area like Bartonville Limestone, Peoria Notre Dame and Washington. Races that were held were the 800M, 1600M, 3200M and the 4 X 800M relay. The Knights had entries in all four races.

After the meet Coach Lyle Dorjahn had this to say, “Incredible set of performances tonight. Hall @ 4:27.82(PR) to finish 2nd. Beckmier @ 9:58.14 to finish 5th (11 second drop). Green 3rd in his flight, 15th Overall @ 4:48.10 (7 second drop). Adcocks with another monster drop battling neck and neck with Lyle prevailing in 10:47.04 to Jacob’s 10:47.36. Lyle PR by 9 seconds. Jacob by 5 seconds. They finish 13th and 14th.  Duzan leads 1st lap in 59 seconds but fades to 11th out of 43 runners. The 4×8 drops season best by 10 seconds”.  The 4X8 was Reggie Edmonds, Jacob Duzan, Austin Plank and Jace Green. Connor Edmonds also ran in the meet in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:33.18.

The team finished tied for fourth place with Rochester, El Paso, Bartonville Limestone, and Christian Life Academy with 10 points each. Morton won the meet with 20 points, Elmwood was second with 17 and Stanford Olympia was third with 16. The Knights finished ahead of Urbana, Carbondale, Pekin, Washington, and Peoria Notre Dame.

The Knights track teams will have a few days off ahead of the Lincoln Prairie Conference meet which will be Thursday, May 27 hosted by Okaw Valley High School in Bethany. Since school is over for the students this meet will start at 10:00 a.m.

With the season being extended this year the boys will have a meet between conference and sectionals, that being at Salt Fork on June 1. Their sectional will be at Tuscola on June 11 with the 1A I.H.S.A State Finals to be held at E.I.U on June 17.

The girls’ sectional will also be at Tuscola on June 4 with their State meet set for June 10 also at E.I.U.
