Braves softball takes game one over Lincoln in a blow-out victory 11-1, Lincoln runs away with early lead in game two

Mt. Zion Braves Varsity had all cylinders firing on offense on Saturday, winning big over Lincoln 11-1 in a double-header.

Lincoln got things moving in the first inning, when Ekirgan singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Mt. Zion scored four runs in the sixth inning as Gwen Bender and Dakota Harrison each had RBIs in the frame.

Harrison earned the victory on the rubber for the Braves as she lasted six innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out nine and walking one.

Farnam took the loss for Lincoln. The bulldog went five innings, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits and striking out three.

Mt. Zion Braves Varsity tallied 13 hits. Bender, Marin Stenger, Sierra Hiser, Harrison, and Caitlin Maley all managed multiple hits for Mt. Zion. Bender led the Braves with three hits in four at bats. Mt. Zion did not commit a single error in the field. Bender had the most chances in the field with ten.

In game two, the Braves watched the game slip away early and could not recover in a 9-1 loss to Lincoln at home.

Lincoln scored on a fielder’s choice by Farnam in the first inning, an error in the first inning, a single by Glenn in the second inning, and another single in the second inning.

The Braves struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Lincoln, giving up nine runs.

Lincoln scored three runs in the fourth inning. Paullus and Stoltzenburg all contributed to the big inning with RBIs.

Kayla Schnippel took the loss for Mt. Zion allowing six hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out six.

Lauren Waller led Mt. Zion with two hits in three at bats.
