Cerro Gordo School Board Summary for April 2021

The Cerro Gordo School Board approved a slew of coaches for the next school year. The Athletic Director will remain as Brandon Willard. The rest are below:

•HS Head Football: Nick Walker

•HS Football Assistant: Dave Elder

•HS Head Volleyball: Monica Hall

•HS Volleyball Assistant: Victoria Hermann

•HS Boys Head Basketball: Brandon Willard

•HS Boys Basketball Assistant: Kraig Rogers

•HS Boys Basketball Assistant: TBD (if needed)

•HS Girls Head Basketball: TBD

•HS Girls Basketball Assistant: TBD

•HS Cheer Sponsor: Libby Hayes/Brittany Wright

•HS Scholastic Bowl: Sarah Bone

•JH Scholastic Bowl: Sarah Bone

Superintendent Brett Robinson stated in an email, “A list of spring sports coaches will be submitted to the board at a later date.” The board also, “Approved a nominal honorarium for volunteer coaches/sponsors for the recently completed winter 2021 sports season, in appreciation of their service to those programs”

The board accepted the resignation of district librarian Meridith Riddle, and employed Tesa Spangler as Part Time Speech Language Pathologist starting May 4, 2021.

The Birch Bus contract was renewed with a 2.5 percent increase, and Junior High boys and girls basketball officials will recieve $75 instead of $60.

And abatement for Abstesos removal from Abateco for $40,000. The board also approved a proposal recently discussed for $47,000 for Tuck pointing from Steven’s Masonry.

The High School first through third floors will be recieving new lockers. Robinson stated in an email, “Existing older lockers will be removed and new ones installed in their place. New lockers installed on the third floor as part of the renovation project will not be affected.” This was approved with Warehouse Design for $25,545.

On Tuesday the board will hold a special meeting inducting new board members.

Elementary Principal Report:

Jodi Neaveill the Elementary Principal gave a short report. The school is making every effort to collect fees, such as: library, registration,etc.

The first week of May (3rd-7th) is Teacher Appreciation Week. Neaveill stated the following in her report, “The elementary school is planning the following: coffee bar/donuts/hot apple cider; popcorn and candy; Panera bagels, T’shirts, and a baked potato bar.”

The Preschool Spring Family Night will be held outdoors.

Other Important Dates or Information from the Report:

•Retention letters will be sent out in April.

•6th grade students will have a science fair on May 12 and 13.

•The Awards Ceremony will take place in individual classrooms this year due to Covid.
