ALAH Jr. High Girls Track Teams begin season with home dual meet

Olivia Binion takes the baton from Gracie Romine on the second exchange in the 4 by 200M relay in the Jr. High track meet held at Arthur on Monday, March 22. It was the first Jr, High meet on the home track since May of 2019.


The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond jr. high girls track teams played hosts to Okaw Valley on Monday, March 22 to kick off the 2021 jr. high track season. Bement was invited but their girls are currently playing basketball. The last time a meet had been held at Wilson Field was in May of 2019.

Bryton Ragon returns to the coaching ranks this year, having coached at the high school level previously, to take charge of the ALAH Jr. High girls’ team. Melissa Hopkins is assisting both the boys and girls squads.

The seventh grade team won the meet by a score of 67-14, taking first in ten of eleven events contested. Garnering first place finishes for the seventh grade were: Maleyna Vanausdoll in the 100M and 200M; Leighton Poulos in the long jump and 800M; Gracie Romine in the high jump; Alex Clark in the discus; Chloe Custer in the shot put; Ruby Burton in the 1600M; Cassidy Rohacs in the 400M and the 1600M relay team of Reece Oye, McKenna Blaudow, Kimberly Krutsinger and Ruby Burton.

The eighth grade lost to Okaw Valley by four points, 36-40 in a very close contest. Skyler Vorck led the way with three victories, the long jump, 100M and 200M. Lillian Edwards won the high jump and the 1600M relay team of Olivia Binion, Sierra Binion, Gracie Romine and Leighton Poulos were also first place winners.

The Jr. High Knights track teams travel to Shelbyville next Monday, April 29 for a meet with the host school and Central A & M.
