ALAH girls pickup three wins, suffer their first loss of the season

Playing four games last week, the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Knights girls basketball team added three more wins but lost one on the road moving to 10-1.

The Knights played host to Cerro Gordo Bement on Monday night for Senior night defeating the Broncos easily.

ALAH held a 19-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and at the break led 44-18. Adding another 13 points in the third the Knights continued to lead 57-20 heading into the final quarter and added only 2 points in the fourth. The final score was 59-26.

All Knights players saw action with three in double figures. Senior Mackenzi Bowles led the nights in scoring with 18 points and 5 rebounds followed by Alexa Miller with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Senior Makenzie Brown added 10 points and 8 rebounds on the night.

Other scorers included Claire Seal, 7 points; Shaylie Miller and Mallory Nichols each with 4 points, Kailee Otto, 3 points; and Alisha Frederick with 1 point.

On the road Wednesday night, ALAH traveled to Blue Ridge and picked up another road victory.

Tied at the end of the first quarter 12-12, the Knights scored 12 points to Blue Ridge’s 2 points and led 24-14 at the halfway point. Scoring 20 points in the third quarter, ALAH continued their lead 44-20 as they started the fourth quarter. Adding 5 points in the final quarter, the

ALAH Knights went on to defeat the Blue Ridge Knights 49-29.

Mackenzi Bowles led all Knights scorers with 14 points. Kailee Otto and Alexa Miller each had 8 points, followed by Makenzie Brown and Claire Seal both with 5 points, Alisha Frederick 4 points, Shaylie Miller and Mallory Nichols each with 2 points, and Sarah Rogers with 1 point.

The Knights were back on the road Thursday night at Tri-County where they were handed their first loss of the season.

At the end of the first quarter, ALAH trailed 13-16. Heading into the second quarter each team scored 12 points and at the break the Knights were down by three, 25-28. The Titans outscored the Knights in the third and took a 41-32 lead into the final quarter. Scoring only 8 points in the fourth to the Titans 18 points, ALAH lost 40-59.

Junior guard Alexa Miller was the only Knight in double figures with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Claire Seal finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Makenzie Brown had 6 points, Mackenzi Bowles 5 points, Charley Condill 4 points, and Mallory Nichols 1 point.

After a disappointing loss on Thursday, the Knights hosted the Villa Grove/Heritage Blue Devils at home on Saturday morning.

Jumping out to an early first quart lead 14-5, ALAH took a 29-18 lead at the half. Scoring twelve points in the third and another seventeen in the fourth, the Knights rolled to a 58-24 victory. Two Knights were in double figures.

Alexa Miller led the Knights in scoring with 14 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals followed by sophomore teammate Kailee Otto with 13 points and 4 rebounds. Mackenzi Bowles had 7 points and 7 rebounds, Claire Seal 7 points, Shaylie Miller 7 points, Makenzie Brown and Alisha Frederick each with 4 points, and Charley Condill had 2 points in the game.
