On February 16, the Mt. Zion School District Board of Education met at the District Office for the regular monthly meeting.
The meeting began with the approval of the January 19 meeting minutes from both the regular and executive meetings.
The Board also approved the review and release of executive session minutes prior to February 2021 and the destruction and disposal of the verbatim recordings prior to August 2019.
The education item on the agenda was Policy 2:50, which is the timeline for the school board to reorganize after the school board election. It has been updated from 7 days to 28 days per state statute. Policy will now read:
The term of office for a School Board member begins immediately after both of the following occur:
1. The election authority canvasses the votes and declares the winner(s); this occurs within 21 days after the consolidated election held on the first Tuesday in April in odd-numbered years.
2. The successful candidate takes the oath of office as provided in Board policy 2:80, Board Member Oath and Conduct.
3. Within 28 days after the consolidated election, boards must hold an organizational meeting to elect electing officers and fix a time and place for the regular meetings.
The term ends 4 years later when the successor assumes office.
Financial items on the agenda including Fund Warrants for January and February, Financial Treasurer’s Report from January 2021, and Bid Authorization for Paper and Custodial Supplies were all approved by the board.
During the staff communications portion of the meeting, Justin Johnson (High School Principal), Julie Marquardt (Jr. High Principal), and Adrianne Moody (High School Counselor) discussed remote learning interventions being implemented to address the academic and mental health needs of Mt. Zion Jr. High and High School students.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 16 at 6:30 pm.
