All nine members of the Knights boys’ cross country team took the starting line at a triangular meet hosted by Unity High School last Friday evening. Taking off at the start are Reggie Edmonds, Jace Green, Jesus Corona, Layton Hall, Lyle Adcock, Connor Edmonds, Jacob Duzan, Logan Beckmier and Jacob Adcock. The Knights took the top four places in the race which also had University High of Urbana as the third team. The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Knights girls’ cross country team takes off at the start of a triangular meet held last Friday at Unity High School. Frome left to right are Alisha Frederick, Sarah Rafferty, Mackenzi Bowles, Emma Edwards and Charley Condill. University High School in Urbana rounded out the field in the meet which served as a final tune-up for the post season in cross country. The Knights will participate in the I.H.S.A. Regional meet next Saturday, October 24 at Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth.
On Friday, October 16 the ALAH Cross Country team traveled to Tolono to take on the state’s 15th ranked Unity Rockets as well as the Illineks of Urbana University High.
After a weekend with no competition the Knights showed they were ready for a pre regional tune up.
Sending the first four runners across the finish as well as the 9th scorer, ALAH scored 19 points to easily outdistance their Champaign County hosts who had 36 points.
Leading the way again was Logan Hall in 15:33.
Logan Beckmier again chased his senior teammate while placing 2nd in 16:22.
Jace Green runs 3rd while putting forth his most impressive performance of the season. His time of 16:27 is a personal best by 30 seconds.
Lyle Adcock runs to 4th while also dropping in a 10 second PR of 16:29.
Jacob Adcock also established a new career best while finishing 9th in 17:13.
Reggie Edmonds also drops in PR finishing 13th in 18:31.
Brother Connor Edmonds is just behind running 14th at 18:39.
Jacob Duzan offers a gutty effort as a nagging hip flexor injury reared its head again stifling his effort while running 19 flat.
Freshman Jesus Corona finishes up for the men placing 19th in 19:31 while battling seasonal allergy issues.
The Lady Knights jumped into deep waters against the State’s deep and talented Lady Rockets.
Unity scored a perfect 15 while trotting the first 11 girls through the finish shute.
Alisha Frederick was the first Knight through going 15th in a near PR of 21:38.
Emma Edwards is 2nd for the ladies in red finishing 17th in 22:30.
Right behind her in 18th was Sarah Rafferty in 21:35.
Charley Condill has an off day running the 3.1 mile course in 25 minutes to finish 26th.
Mackenzi Bowles rounds out the ALAH effort running 25:47 to finish 29th.
The Knights Cross Country program ventures into post season action Saturday, October 24 at Hickory Point Golf Club in Forsyth.
Included in the entry list is number 5 Monticello and number 11 St. Jo – Ogden as well as the 15th ranked Unity men. Adding in the 10th ranked Knights, well regarded BHRA, the host St.Teresa and Tuscola, this regional is loaded.
Many observers call this the toughest Class A Regional in the state. The top 5 teams and next 5 individuals advance to the Sectional round October 31.
The Lady Knights start their quest to advance to sectionals for the first time in school history at 10:00 AM with the first of three flights.
The men begin their quest to replicate last year’s Regional victory at 11:00 AM with flight one featuring all teams 1 thru 3 runners. Following that will be two more flights containing team’s 4/5 and 6/7 runners respectively. There will be 17 schools represented in this meet.
