Knights Double Up At Sullivan

Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond cross country runner, Mackenzie Brown passes a Villa Grove runner coming into the finish at the meet hosted by Sullivan on October 6. Mackenzie’s move ahead of the VG girl was important in the team scoring. The Lady Knights won the meet by one point 31 to 32 over second place Tuscola. The Knights’ Logan Beckmier comes into the finish in first place ahead of Tuscola’s Josiah Hortin. Logan’s first place finish led the Knights to the team victory over Tuscola by a score of 23 to 57. His time of 16:18 was his second best of the season.

The ALAH Knights Cross Country squad traveled to Sullivan on Tuesday October 6 for a meet with the hosts as well as Tuscola, Bement, Tri County, and Villa Grove. The Knights had an outstanding evening of running excellence.

In the opening Open race, the Knight’s Reggie Edmonds trotted out to a dominant win running 18:59 across the 3 mile Tabor Park course to win by 59 seconds.

The lady Knights toed the start line next. With Charlie Condill and Alisha Frederick leading the way the ladies beat Tuscola by 1 point. With Condill and Frederick finishing 2nd and 3rd, they were followed by Emma Edwards in 7th overall, Makenzie Brown in 12th, Sarah Rafferty in 14th and Mackenzie Bowles in 23rd. Earlier in the season the ladies lost to Tuscola. Their improvement was quote evident with the win.

The boys lined up at the start without senior stalwart Layton Hall who was participating in training runs. In his place, Logan Beckmier stepped up and took his 1st race victory of his varsity career. Though winning in an excellent time of 16:18, Beckmier was pushed over the entire race by Tuscola’s excellent Freshman Josiah Hartin. Tailing the top pair were a group of Knights in hot pursuit. Lyle Adcock goes 3rd in 16:52, Jace Green runs 5th in 16:57 just missing a PR, and Jacob Adcock is 6th in 17:20. Jacob Duzan comes home 8th in 17:42 with Connor Edmonds in 15th at 18:33 and Jesus Corona going 22nd in 19:03. In team scoring, ALAH easily outdistanced Tuscola 23-57.

The Knights finish the week ranked 9th statewide in class 1A. They take the next weekend off, returning to action October 16th in a triangular meet at Tolono Unity with the state ranked hosts and Urbana University High. The meet kicks off at 4pm with the girls varsity race.

The Knights harriers follow up on October 24th at the IHSA Regional championship at Hickory Point Golf Club in Forsythe. As the season winds down, please find time to come out and support the state ranked Knights!
