Welcome Back…. First Day of 20-21 School Year!

The fourth and fifth grade students are waiting to enter school at their assigned entrance as they stand on yellow spots to keep them socially distanced and all in masks which is required when dropped off for the school day.

Ryan Jefferson, PE teacher at Atwood Hammond Grade School. spent the first day of school instructing the kindergarten class outside the basics to doing a jumping jack. He walked them through the different steps and for the most part they seemed to catch on pretty quickly. Students are allowed to remove their masks when they are outside to give them a break and just breathe in the fresh air.

Atwood Hammond Grade School students excited and anxious, returned to school for the first time on Wednesday, August 19 after leaving the buildings five months ago on March 13. Many new policies were implemented this year mandated by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education which include face coverings, social distancing, daily wellness screenings, lockers not allowed, and remote learning options to name just a few. School begins at 8:00 am and dismisses at 1:30 pm five days a week with entrance procedures at different doors for the students. AHGS Principal Kristin Nall stated the first day went great..better than expected and credits the great “team” at AHGS as everybody did their part.
