Covid may have postponed or cancelled many things, but the Bird Run is not one of them. Since the run is conducted primarily outside, it is on and Cerro Gordo residents are looking forward to the event.
The event is generally held as a fundraiser for one particular family in need, whether it be medical expenses, or another large expense.
This year it will be held on Saturday, August 1 starting at the American 117 Post Legion in Cerro Gordo with sign ups beginning at 11 a.m. and the Run at noon.
Butch Hilderbrand runs the event and said while the event is on, this year it will be a bit different. This year the donations will not go towards a particular family, but instead towards various organizations throughout the village. Hilderbrand said it seemed unfair to pick one when multiple people and places have been impacted by Covid-19.
There will be 5 stops instead of 7, no hand to hand contact for games, The Depot is offering a Bloody Mary bar, The Youth League is hosting stops, and there will be no silent auction and limited indoor seating. Food will be served take out style instead of indoors, but the golf carts will still come out decked out to play helping out others.
“This is a unique year, but The Bird Run is still going to go on and strong as ever.”
