Atwood American Legion Auxiliary Needs You

Atwood American Legion Auxiliary
How many Apple Dumplings would you say you have enjoyed over the years? How many times have you been to the Veteran’s Day Program and felt the goosebumps? How many years have you seen the flags line Main Street for Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day? How many poppies have you bought? How would you feel if that all disappeared?
Wouldn’t it be a shame to see it go away? Unfortunately, it just might. So many people do not know all the wonderful things the women of the Atwood American Legion Auxiliary do in donating their time to help others.
There is the apple dumplings at the festival, the flags along Main Street, selling poppies to raise money for our hospitalized and disabled veterans, put on the Veteran’s Day Program at the school, host a lunch for the veterans and their families afterward, visit with veterans in the nursing homes, collect items to take when visiting them in the nursing homes, host blood drives, provide walkers, wheelchairs, etc., to the community, and send girls to Girls State.
However, the membership for the Auxiliary is low and without help, we cannot go on.
The James Reeder Post #770 Atwood American Legion Auxiliary started in May 1945, 75 years ago, and, while the Auxiliary does exist to support the veterans, the community benefits also.
So, what can you do to help? Volunteer. If you are eligible, become a member, if not, see what you can do to help these women when they are hosting an event.
Eligibility requirements are simple – grandmothers, sisters, daughters and spouses of members of the American Legion, veterans with honorable discharge or died in the line of duty, and any female veteran (may be some restrictions).
For more information on joining the American Legion Auxiliary, James Reeder Post #770 or if you would like to volunteer to help with any event, please contact Jessie Yoder at 217-246-5494.
