The Arthur Atwood Lions Club awarded two $300 scholarships for the 2020 – 21 school year. The scholarships were available to any Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School students entering post-secondary education at a trade school, community college, or university.
Students completed a scholarship form and wrote two short essays about their chosen course of study/future goals and describing their community service experiences while at ALAH HS.
Award winners are Jessica Diener and Jake Hollingsworth. Jessica, the daughter of Boris and Mary Rosas of Lovington, plans to begin her college career at Lake Land College majoring in Chemistry with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. Jake is the son of Scott and Angie Hollingsworth of Arthur and is attending Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville majoring in history with teaching licensure to become a history teacher.
Funds for these scholarships were raised through various fundraising events, including fish fries, Fair stand food sales, etc.
The Club is made up of approximately 40 individuals who are dedicated to the mission of Lions Club International which is “to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding.”
