In the first invitational of the season and the last indoor meet at that, the ALAH Boys’ track and field team returned to the Mt. Zion High School fieldhouse to compete in the 2020 Mt. Zion Indoor Invitational Track Meet on March 11.
This meet included every event besides the discus throw and the 4×100-meter relays and 100-meter dashes which were replaced by the 60-meter dash due to the nature of the indoor track being a 200-meter ellipse.
Being one of the smallest teams in a field of 17, the Knights still made a significant impact.
Of the three relay races, the Knights placed first in two.
The 4×800 relay topped the best time of the same relay all of 2019 with a time of 9:09.83. The team comprising of Jace Green, Cade Hendrickson, and Austin Plank, and Aiden Stewart edged out the second-place team by less than a second. Their time currently is ranked in all IHSA class 1A teams as 9th.
Along with that, the Knights also finished first in the 4×200 relay. With Finnian Davison taking the final handoff after Kaden Feagin, Max Allen, and Quentin Morgan, the Knights took home the top spot in a similar fashion to the 4×800 team, finishing just a quarter of a second faster than the second-place squad.
Despite placing third in the event, Layton Hall’s time of 4:39.7 in the 1600 meter marked him as the fourth-fastest in the state of Illinois in 1A. Impressively, the Knights’ long-distance men had another runner eclipse top 5 in the state with Logan Beckmier running a 10:15.53 in the 3200-meter run. Adding to the impressive individual marks, Kaden Feagin long jumped 6.32 meters while Finn Davison ran 200 meters in just 24.23 seconds, earning him second place.
