Rev. William Stuart Hudspeth, 97, of Monticello, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Piatt County Nursing Home.
Bill was born on October 19, 1921, in Bridgeport, the son of Oscar Elmer and Georgina Pearl Abernathy Hudspeth. He married Helen May Bushey on May 28, 1944, in Shelby, OH after meeting in Bible College; she preceded him in death on October 2, 2017.
Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Cincinnati Bible Seminary and served as a minister for the Disciples of Christ Christian Church for many years in Central and Southern Illinois and also in Nebraska. He pastored for many years beginning in 1964 in Bement where he chose to make his home after retirement. He worked with his wife hand-in-hand in church ministry and as foster parents, reflecting God’s love for all. Bill was a member of the NRA, Lion’s Club, Bement Auxiliary Police, and was a Masonic member for over 50 years. Bill also received the American Legion Certificate for Meritorious Service in Liberty.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Hudspeth.
He is survived by daughters, Georgina (John Zeuner) Hudspeth of Austin, TX and Judy (husband, Larry) Dale of Petersburg; grandchildren, Nels Dale of Nashville, TN and Laura Clemens of Springfield; and one great-grandchild, Jonathan Clemens.
Visitation: Family received friends from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at First Christian Church, 164 E. Wing Street, Bement. A Funeral Ceremony followed at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Davis and Pastor Jason Butterick officiating.
Burial followed at Bement Township Cemetery.
