The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Jr. High boys track teams played hosts to the Redbirds of Paris Mayo Middle School on Tuesday, May 7. The seventh and eighth grade teams both won the team competition. The seventh grade won seven of thirteen events while the eighth grade was tops in ten of thirteen.
Landon Waldrop led the way for the seventh grade taking first in three events, the long jump, the 110 meter hurdles and the 200 meters. Connor Nettles was the winner of the 400 meters and Alex Rexroad placed first in the 1600 meters. The other two winning events were the 800 meter relay of Zach Thompson, Marcelo Chavez, Rexroad, and Trey Collins and the 1600 meter relay of Chavez, Thompson, Rexroad and Dalton Vanausdoll.
The eighth grade had three double event winners, Logan Beckmier in the 800 and 1600 meters; Mason Allen in the long jump and the 400 meters and Kaden Feagin in the 200 meters and 100 meters in which he broke his own school record set earlier this season. Rylan Miller took first in the high jump. The eighth grade won all three relays in their division, the 800 meter relay of Allen, Waldrop, Nettles and Feagin; the 400 meter relay of Drew Cotton, Miller, Lyle Adcock, and Max Duzan; and the 1600 meter relay of Allen, Cotton, Logan Beckmier, and Nettles.
By the time you read this article, the boys will have had their Sectional meet and hopefully have some qualifiers for the State meet.
