Alberta “Tot” F. Schuman, 83, of Decatur died Saturday, May 4, 2019, at home with family.
Services were held Thursday, May 9, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation was held two hours prior to service time. Burial was in North Fork Cemetery.
Family suggested memorials to be made to Breast Cancer Research.
“Tot” was born in Pierson Station. She was the daughter of Harry W. and Pauline Graham Chase. She was delivered at home by her father. “Tot” started her early life in a two-room school and saved one of her classmates from getting run over by a train.
She worked as a homemaker, mother, and at K-mart and Sam’s Club. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church, the Decatur Quilters Guild, TOPS, and Pleasant Grove Home Extension.
She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and also enjoyed traveling. “Tot” served our country faithfully via seven of her children and three of her grandchildren that served in the United States Armed Forces.
“Tot” married Ronald Ray Schuman Sr. on December 1, 1951, in Decatur. He preceded her in death in November 1996.
Surviving are her sons, Ron Jr. of Decatur, Jauque of Laramie, Wyoming, Timothy of Highpoint, North Carolina, Terry of Decatur, and Todd of Alamogordo, New Mexico; two daughters, Dianna Smith of Marion and Teresa Schuman of Estes Park Colorado; a sister, Dorma Lewis of Crestwood, Kentucky; a brother, Kenneth Chase; 59 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 34 step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, four sisters, husband, one son, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
